Update Staff Post Listing

Voyager

Hello!

Welcome back!

We have a load of changes for you, the reader! For the potential player, staff member, and potential involved.

The Captain of Starbase 900 would like to step down. Meaning, we need a new Captain!

The Chief Engineer wishes to transfer to another starbase, so we need some one to step up!

The Chief Science Officer wants to change departments. Meaning we need a new experimenter in the lab!

Think you got what it takes? Think you know the position? Think you can handle it? Apply here:

IC Senior Staff Application

We also have a number of Staff positions open!

Are you a Reddit power user? How about Facebook? Got Discord power? Know Wikia?

We could use a helping hand with all of these platforms.

Know where to advertise for the game, where to find all the good RP’ers? We could use a recruiter!

Are you good at writing? Think you got mad pen skills? We want to challenge you!

Open staff positions: Builder&Coder, two Writers, Moderator Team, Social Media Administration / Moderation, and Game Recruiters. If you’re serious about it, join us in discord, and talk with us about how and why you should be made a team member today!

You can apply here:

WhatΒ  is expected of staff?

A single person may out for several roles at once. Don’t hesitate to admit you can’t handle something. I’d rather you decide to step down from a position you don’t favor then find out you’ve been struggling for some time. Like a single person may take charge of all of the social media, but decides Facebook is too much work in conjunction with Reddit and Twitter, but prefers Facebook, can let go of Twitter and Reddit.

I’d like a semi-formal division between Builder & Coder vs Rules & Mod teams. If only to keep the builders building, and the modders modding. Both Builder Team, and Moderator Team can have as many people as they wish. Moderation team should be kept to a respectable ratio to player base (Once up and running, and open for public play)

Writers keep players engaged. Idea on having three writers, (From **my** point of view.) is to have two main writers, and a tie break should there be a disagreement on something. How story flow should be, I’ll leave to writers… I can’t manage to write my own story in some decent flow style.

Recuiters I’d like to see a new ad or post on a weekly basis, maybe, depending on volume of places that can be advertised on. Active seeking of players would be the job.
Expectations of all* staff:

  • Respect towards other staff.
  • Respect to players.
  • A minimal weekly contribution to the community. IE:
    • Posts to social media
    • continuation of story
    • a newly built room | corrected code
    • new recruit ad.
    • Something!
  • To follow the same rules as non-staff.

New Staff & Staff Changes

Hello!,

There are a few staff changes to announce. Firstly, I am stepping back from my duties as Head Wizard. I have come to fully realize, and must admit, that I have not fully done everything I could to help this game. In truth, I wanted this game to be the best it could be, and I have come to realize I have not done right by this goal. As such, I am stepping back from the Head Wizard position and fully moving into the role of Head Builder & Coder.

From this moment on, Alias will be taking over the role of Head Wizard. It is my hope that with him taking the reigns that we can all come to experience what we all want from this game: Roleplay and Fun. I hope that we can all move forward and grow the game into what not only it can be but what it should be. Working together, I hope that we can all experience these things and that we can truly have fun. In truth, and I know I’m not the only one feeling this way, the game hasn’t been fun for a long time now. Let’s work together to change that.

Finally, I would like to welcome a new staff member: Leia. Leia will be working with both staff and players to design and play out new tinyplots. As such, she will quickly become one of our most seen staff members, as she works to help players have fun and roleplay more and more. Please join me in welcoming her to the team and helping her work together with all of us.

Thank you all,
Kimojuno.

Poll Results

Hello all,

The poll resulted in the players leaning to allowing sexual roleplay in private areas. As such, the MUSH rules have been adjusted to allow such.

NewHopeMUSH is a game for anyone over the age of eighteen (18) years of age. If it is discovered that a player is not over the agre of eighteen (18), that player will be banned immediately. The reason for this is that sexual roleplay is allowed in private areas of the MUSH. Sexual roleplay can only occur in private settings and nowhere in public areas. Should sexual roleplay be engaged in public areas, appropriate steps will be taken. This could range from IC issues, for example a character being written up, demoted, etc, to OOC sanctions should it be determined as needed. Please note, however, that when we say ‘sexual’ we don’t mean kissing or other such Public Displays of Affection. We are talking about engaging in sexual acts.

It should also be noted that, although we now have a place to post logs (the wiki), this will only be logs that were recorded in public areas (e.g. non-sexual logs). This is two-fold: Logging a private roleplay without permission isn’t proper and, further, sexual roleplay is only allowed in private areas.

Moving on, I have also spoken with players on Discord and we have come with the following Starfleet regulations;

0) Before initiating in an intimate relationship with a member of unknown or non-federation alien species or its allies, a crewmember must get clearance from both their CO and the CMO.

1) Although any member of Starfleet may date one another, any and all interactions must remain professional while on duty.

2) No personal relationship, romantic or otherwise, may interfere or affect decisions made involving their position and/or duties (e.g. affecting or changing the duty roster, rotation, or otherwise interfering with the day-to-day operations of their post).

Thank you,
Kimojuno.

Server Reboot

Hey all,

I rebooted the server due to some updates that had to be run. Everything should be back up and running.

Thanks,
Kimojuno.

Server Updates – Next Week

Hey all,

Next week the server will be rebooted for maintenance. I am planning this for Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017. The downtime should be around 30 minutes through one hour, but may last a little longer. This will include the NewHopeMUSH game, bot, and website.

On another note, the game and website was also updated yesterday. No downtime was required for that.

Thank you,
Kimojuno.

Server Reboot

Hello all,

A few minutes ago, there was a hardware fault affecting the physical hardware that NewHopeMUSH’s server is hosted on. This issue was with the physical hardware beyond the scope of our control, and had nothing to do with NewHopeMUSH itself — it did, however, cause the server to shutdown and for us to lose our uptime on both the website and the game. πŸ™

I have restarted all services (the website, game, the bot, and the webclient) and, at this time, there should be no further issues. There should be no loss of data but, if anyone notices anything, please alert me as soon as possible (emailing through the ‘contact us’ option on the website is the fastest way to get a response).

Thank you,
Kimojuno.

MUSH Updated

Hey all,

This is a notification that I applied some updates earlier today on the MUSH. Everything should be working fine, and no issues should be present, but if you do find something, please @mail +staff immediately.

Thanks,
Kimojuno. πŸ™‚

Positions and Chargen Skills

Hey all,

Figured I’d make an announcement about the open senior positions within Starbase 900.

The senior positions are:

Flag Officer-in-Command β€” Admiral Neil Clayton
Commanding Officer β€” Captain Shiverclawe
Executive Officer β€” Commander Bastien Locke
Second Officer β€” Free
Third Officer β€” Free
Chief Engineer β€” Free
Chief Medical Officer β€” Free
Chief Counselor β€” Free
Chief Security / Tactical Officer β€” Free
Chief Operations Officer β€” Free
Chief Intelligence Officer β€” Free
Chief Morale Officer β€” Free
Chief Science Officer β€” Free
Chief Diplomatic Officer β€” Free
Chief Helm Officer β€” Free

Any not chosen when NewHopeMUSH opens for roleplay will be considered manned by NPCs.

If you are interested in fulfilling a role, please send your request via @mail to +staff in-game (@mail +staff=Subject/Message).

On the topic of Chargen skills, I’ve had a few people bring up about how they set to make a character know one skill well (eg: Engineering) and come out of the Chargen with the character knowing another skill better (eg: Medical), and how this doesn’t help with the way they envisioned their character. The Chargen is setup to give a somewhat-random skillset upon character creation. With this in mind though, I am going to ask a question that I would like some answers to (either comment on this post on the website, or +bbpost in the suggestions board in-game).

While keeping the fact that the Chargen is somewhat random (in that your set skill_field (eg: Engineering) will only appear as Advanced or Experienced), would you like a different way for the Chargen to pick skills? Currently, it is using the randword() command to do so. Is this something that you feel could be improved? If so, how?

It should also be stated that the skills listed on the +info are for, mainly, roleplay references — and may not help in future code — although they do help in the Federation schools (eg: Starfleet Command School, Starfleet Medical Academy, and Advanced Tactical Training).

So, the questions I am posing are: Should the Chargen skill selection be changed? If so, how? Should it remain the same? If so, why? What exactly do you hope from the Chargen skill selection? Please be as specific as possible.

Thank you for all your help,
Kimojuno.

A bit of a reminder…

Hey all,

Just wanted to remind everyone about the command +viewprojects in-game as it shows the various projects that people can help out with around the game. If you want to assist in the development of the game, this is the best way to find out what needs work done.

In other news, I added a whole list of commodities, thanks to the previously-mentioned suggestions by Bandus. You can see a list by typing +commodities in-game.

Thank you,
Kimojuno.

Chargen – Merchanting

Hello all,

I was talking with Bandus, who suggested to me that, since not every Federation member was in Starfleet, it would be wise to have merchants within the Federation, instead of having to pick between the two.

Therefore, after going back over the Chargen (and finding/fixing some small bugs that bothered me when discovering), I have now made the suggested change.

As such:

* Players can now choose between non-aligned merchants and Federation merchants.
* Players can also choose between civilians and Federation citizens.
* Players can still choose to enter their characters into Starfleet.
* This only effects Alpha Quadrant races, not Delta Quadrant Races.
* Klingon Empire and Romulan Star Empire unaffected.

For a complete list of organizations and their members type in-game:

@org/list (for complete list)
@org/members (for short codes)
@org/members

Due to this change, and for the purposes of the organization code only, the Federation and Starfleet are considered separate entities. Starfleet, for the organization code, is considered a subgroup of the Federation.

Furthermore, anyone wishing to redo their character’s organization, can do so by starting over the chargen process. You will not have to change anything of your basic stats (race, height, etc) just re-pick your factions options.

Finally, if you run into any bugs or problems, please let me know immediately by either @mail or page in-game, or through the contact form on the website.

Thank you,
Kimojuno.
